On September 5, 1999, two car bombs exploded in Israel, most of you may not remember the case, as there were no fatalities, except for the three terrorists who drove the cars.

The cars exploded in the cities of Haifa and Tiberias simultaneously. Initially, the investigators believed that the attacks were carried out by unskilled terrorists, as the cars exploded prematurely, but close examination showed that the cars and bombs were actually well prepared, with the aim of causing as many casualties as possible. The reason for the premature detonation was another:

The Palestinians in the West Bank did not accept the "Zionist Winter Clock", which had changed a few days earlier. They aimed the bombings for 5:30, according to daylight saving time, but the one thing they forgot - to make sure that the terrorists who drove the vehicles themselves operated by daylight saving time.

Fate had its way and the drivers of the car had their watches set to "Zionist Time" and so exploded an hour earlier than they expected while they were still en route...

For this their efforts, the terrorist were posthumously awarded the Darwin Award which is a spoof spin off of the Noble Prize. Darwin Awards commemorate those who improve our gene pool--by removing themselves from it in the most spectacular way possible.
